Become a foster carer

Why foster care?

Foster families provide temporary care and support in cases where it is not possible, unsafe or not in the best interests of the child to live with their biological family. A child can only feel love, support and belonging in a family environment. Currently, many children are still growing up in small group homes waiting for a family. Children in need of foster care may be infants aged 0 to 3 years, who are waiting for their status to be resolved, children who have lost their parents due to death or whose family cannot care for them due to illness or other reason, or children separated from their families due to maltreatment or abuse.

Just 5 steps to becoming a foster carer

Initial Inquiry

Contact the Center for Social Work and fill in the questionnaire.

Information Session

The Center for Support of Foster Families together with the Center for Social Work perform an initial visit to the home, in agreement with you. During the home visit, the team evaluates the following criteria: age, health condition, eligibility, material conditions and housing conditions.

Home Visit

During the home visit, the team talks to you to determine your situation and your needs and evaluates the following criteria: age, health, eligibility, material conditions and housing conditions. It is of crucial importance to us that the children are sent to suitable families. Finally, the team makes an eligibility assessment.

Training

If the assessment is positive, the Center for Support of Foster Families invites you to mandatory training in fostering skills. If you are interested in another type of foster care (interventional, specialized, kinship care), the Center for Support of Foster Families organizes additional training.

Final Assessment

If the initial home visit and initial assessment was positive and if you attended the mandatory training, the Center for Support of Foster Families and the Center for Social Work makes a final assessment of your eligibility.
